Driving Force

My son, Martin 12, has been pre-diagnosed with DCD - Development Co-ordination Disorder, ADHD and also ASD - Autism.

Of course, as a parent, the first thing I wanted to do was to get some tools that would help Martin build strength in his fingers, hands, wrists,  arms, legs, and with his hand-to-eye coordination and balance.  I ended up spending a fortune on items available on the market such as Lego, playdough, bricks, blocks, beads, toys with buttons and zips etc.  Aside from the massive financial outlay and the very limited amount of attention required for these items, I found that the general items were not in any way striking and in the eyes of a child it was just boring old Lego again.  The cost greatly outweighed the benefit.  A small box of Lego that makes a small spacecraft costs  €30 a shot and once the craft is made, there is no way the child wants to break it up and start making the same one again, so a new box had to be bought continuously.  There was nothing that hit the nail on the head and said - I'm new, I'm exciting, I'm great fun, pieces of me won't get lost or need replacing regularly, I'm suitable for the home and for the classroom regardless of the weather, I have been crafted especially to improve fine and gross motor skills, I will have proven results to build strength in the appropriate muscles and I am a solution to an international market that will become the leading brand universally in providing expert tools and equipment to masterfully and gently improve your child's abilities in fine and gross motor skills.
I was tired of buying every silly fad that came along and the only thing that changed was my bank balance.

Bicycle Simulator Video Designed to Improve Fine and Gross Motor Skills

Tommy Timmy's Tools - Bicycle Simulator 1 (Feet and hands) Bicycle Simulator 2 (hands only) Bicycle Simulator 3 (fingers) and an App

This potential business aims to provide our target group with a range of quality, safe and easy to use support tools to help to improve fine and gross motor skills for children, especially for people with learning disabilities, Dyspraxia, Autism, sensory needs, mental disabilities and people with limited limb and spinal mobility.

Although we have a range of tools designed for future consideration, the initial product is a bicycle simulator available in 3 different sizes:

Bicycle Simulator 1:   Often the target group will struggle to cycle a bicycle, they may try pedalling backwards instead of forwards, and also struggle controlling the handlebars, brakes and bell while pedalling.  The Bicycle Simulator 1 will come in parts that can easily be clicked together when needed.  The aim is master one skill at a time.  Foot pedals can be placed on the floor using suction cups to keep it firmly in place.  The user will sit on an appropriate chair and pedal the bicycle, the pedals will only go forward. When this skill is mastered, the supervisor can apply a set of handle bars that rotate sufficiently to be used in unison with the pedals, then brakes, a bell and a pump can be applied once the desired skills are achieved.  This will provide our target group with the experience of riding a bicycle and is a safe and fun way to learn the initial coordination required.  This will also be beneficial for people with more profound disabilities, who may never have the opportunity to ride a bicycle. This will build strength in the legs, feet, hands and arms Supervision advised.

Bicycle Simulator 2:  This is a tabletop set of pedals that only allow the user to pedal forward, this will be much smaller than the first simulator, it will be applied to the table using suction cups and the children will rotate the pedals using their hands.  Often children will learn skills by using their hands first to learn the motion.  This will provide hours of fun and exercise while also learning the pedalling motion as well as building strength in the hands and arms. Supervision advised.

Bicycle Simulator 3:  This will be used by the first two fingers of each hand and the thumbs will be placed at the bottom keeping it in place.  This will be similarly sized to a fidget spinner.  The fingers will turn the pedals placed each side of a thick disc; the disc will speed up to a safe speed.  The user will place their thumbs on the bottom of the base to support the unit.  This is a finger pocket-size bicycle simulator and it will be stored in a clear plastic box that fits onto the base.  The children will enjoy the tiny simulator, while learning the pedalling motion and building up strength in the fingers and thumbs, this will help when they are holding a pencil, writing, drawing, painting or playing with small objects like Lego.

Accompanying App

App: (if viable) All the tools created for Tommy Timmy's Tools can be supplemented by an exciting animated character-led app with a free basic subscription and an upgrade.  This would be enormously exciting and beneficial for our target group.

Follow-up Products

Follow-up products are products that can possibly follow on from the initial product, it is important to have follow-up products to keep the company in growth with more innovated products that appeal to our target market.  These products will be displayed on this site for future consideration.  After the Bicycle Simulator has been introduced to the market other simulators such as a car, a kayak, a speed boat, a motorbike etc can be introduced into the market fairly quickly.  All these products will be available for all children but will be specifically designed to improve fine and gross motor skills.  All the products can be used from a chair or from a wheelchair.  It is expected that all of these products will bring fun and excitement, so the children are learning and building up muscles in all the right places without even knowing it and having the app interact with the user by showing the kayak on a river and the characters interacting and asking the user to follow their direction, this will make it extra fun.  Parents will be happy to buy these simulators for their children especially as many children rather stay in their house these days.

Physiotherapists may even recommend these products to improve stiffness in various parts of the body.  Adults can also use the products.  There are also other products suggested in the photo gallery below.

Video:  App with characters will use all the tools with the children.
